I write about implementing 📝 productivity systems to reduce friction in our workflows. This blog also acts as a devlog for becoming a content creator (📷youtuber & ✏️ writer ). I like the concept of note-blogging so you can see my zettelkasten - containing my thoughts about remote work (goals!), mental health (burnout) and fiction.
This entire blog is a work in progress |・ω・) so I will have various todos scattered around XD.
I plan on writing blog posts as a accompanying piece to my Pamela Wang - YouTube videos, as a place to elaborate more (some stuff just doesn’t fit in the videos), put code snippets and links to interesting stuff I found while researching the video.
The Zettelkasten is going to be my experiment in trying note-blogging inspired by this list of digital gardens particularly Tim’s. I like the idea of making ‘claims’ about the world as you ideate, then later you go back and refine those as you learn more through researching the topic or actual experimentation. Inspired by the ideas of learning in public , I am just going to write as I think, because I believe that we need to z-express to think through the idea and failure is the mother of success so only by trying to figure out what I am thinking repeatedly (and hence failing repeatedly) can I get better :)
So if you see a bunch of zettels that you don’t agree with or know to be wrong, I am not making absolute assertions that they are right, just refining my model of how things work. Feel free to send me a message (at mwahacookie@gmail.com) if you would like to discuss any of the stuff here.
You can start at Zettel Inbox or the Entry Points tag :)

You only improve what you measure
source::
Definition “If you can’t measure it you can’t improve it.” Peter Drucker
You need to track the things you want to work on, not just rely on a sense that “ehh I am getting healthier”
Tracking things makes you subconsciously change your behaviour? (TODO find that article about how weighing self everyday makes people adjust their food intake) You don’t really know unless you take the scientific approach: eliminate other variables as much as possible, repeatedly test (with a control) and see if the effect is repeated....
customizing our setup has hidden costs
source::
if we consider customization = slow changes of design till something is exactly as you like it
Then as you customize, your baseline moves from 3 to 5 to 8, so it is hard to get used to the default setup (3).
E.g. Default setup = Macbook You add “Multiple monitors” = + 2 Comfort and Functionality You add “Shortcuts” = + 1 Speed and Functionality You add “Moonlander” = + 2 Comfort and Speed You add “MOBA Mouse” = + 1 Comfort and Effectiveness...
different mask you hold for every situation
source::
I think people have different masks for every person that they talk to, or groups of people
family work ppl alone by myself even within groups, there are subgroups (family - brothers, or parents) Some aspects of yourself are magnified, behaviour changes to what is appropriate for the situation (performative?). do people really have personalities, what even is a personality?
It might be conscious on some parts but I think switching between masks is more of a subconscious behaviour cued by...
digital nomad
source:: Deep Dive Podcast Ali Abdaal - Digital Nomad
Definition Someone who travels as part of their lifestyle, more of having multiple home bases in a few countries that they move between a few times a year.
Only really possible for remote work because they won’t be going in to the office.
Problems Sounds like something I would like to try but also note the difficulties inherent in this:
Visa to be allowed to stay in another country constantly having to move = burden in some cases the burden of moving your things - might be better as a minimalist who does not have that many possessions but realistically I am a tech gadget hoarder and general accumulator of lots of random things I can’t bear to throw away....
do humans have fundamental nature?
source::
What is fundamental?
Genetics determine who you are? but say your ‘soul’ is the same but you were born to different partents Nature vs Nurture tho, Nurture plays a big part in who you are although Nature affects who you are too
do people really have personalities
source::
I feel like I act differently at different times, places and situations. Largely depending on my energy levels. So what even is a personality.
I think dissociative identity disorder is a really good example of the existence of personalities, but then most of the alters seem to have different pasts (Dissociadid at least?) so I guess it is more of different pasts shape you differently?
My question is
Is personality intrinsic?...
home is the most comfortable place
source::
For most people, home should be the most comfortable place
since you can customize it to your liking and having control over your personal space is important. if we consider customization = slow changes of design till something is exactly as you like it, although preferences shift over time or we have too many conflicting desires so things can never be perfectly as you would like them to be you can do whatever you want when you are at home, because in public there is a need to act properly Examples of ways you can customize your home...
in public there is a need to act properly
source::
The idea that there is a different mask you hold for every situation and the public mask is one that adheres to social norms like
sit without slouching, sit with your legs closed, do not put your legs on another chair cover your mouth when you yawn, say excuse me when you sneeze do not listen to music without headphones People may not choose to adhere to these behaviours but there is general pressure to do so....
minimalist
source::
Be a minimalist. Kill your darlings. Elizabeth Filips
Living with minimal possessions, usually only the few things you really value.
Somewhat similar to only keep what sparks joy
my life goal is to be a hermit
source::
I feel like I would really enjoy staying at home for the rest of my life (occassionally leaving for walks and swimming unless I get an estate big enough for both), because
home is the most comfortable place Covid has showed me that I don’t like “not being able to leave home” because there is this feeling of freedom being restricted and then the only thing I want to do is to leave the house....
